Drop height of the water in meters*
Determine the drop height of the water using e.g. an altimeter. Please indicate the difference between the higher and the lower position.
Flow rate of the water in meters per second*
Determine the flow rate of the water using two marking elements (e.g. stones) at a distance of ten meters distance along the watercourse. Then put a floatable object in the water. Measure the time with a stopwatch the floatant object needs from the start marker to the end marker. Divide the number 10 by the measured time. Repeat this procedure as often as possible and determine the average.
Depth of the water in centimeters*
Determine the water depth using e.g. a folding rule. Hold it as far away as possibile with your arm from the shore towards the middle of the body of water for your measurement.
Width of the water in centimeters*
Determine the water width e.g using a folding rule. Measure the narrowest waterbody width at the location planned for the water power plant.
